Nights were mainly made for saying things that you can't say tomorrow day...

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." - Henry Van Dyke

It's Fun Fact Friday! Yes, this is new and no I probably won't keep up with it religiously, however I think this is a fun segment to my blog that I hope to incorporate at least somewhat regularly. I'm trying here people! I hardly even have time to keep my manis and pedis lookin' fresh, okay?

So...

FUN FACT: Everyone has a talent.

Yes, this is a fact. Every single person on Earth has some sort of talent, even if they don't know about it. Some talents are so powerful that it's known to a person from a young age. Other talents lay dormant inside of you until just the right time in your life to come out and say "I'm ready!" Just because you have not discovered your talent, does not in any way mean you do not have one. For all you know, you may have an extremely amazing talent in sitting. Maybe you sit so well that your ass just never falls asleep. You can sit in the same position for hours on end without being uncomfortable. That's something I surely can't do. I am constantly shifting positions while I sit at my 8 hour desk job.

Jokes aside, another thing about talents is that they depend on you to help them grow. Sure, there are people who are just born oozing their talent. But that does not mean they never work on bettering that talent. Just because some have more obvious talents than others does not mean they work any less on it. Musicians and other artists are constantly working to better their craft.

True story, when I was a kid I never really imagined myself as a writer. I always knew I wrote well, but I never thought I wrote very well. I didn't realize the knack I had for it. I remember writing a lot of short stories as a kid, specifically horror stories (I was a kid who grew up on R.L Stine Goosebumps books, and an adult who extended that love of horror with a love for Stephen King). I also wrote a little bit of poetry in high school which I still have, though it is far too embarrassing to ever share with anyone.

Anyway, I always thought writing was just easy for everyone. Imagine my surprise to learn that not everyone has naturally great grammar and creativity. Sarcasm aside, I didn't really think I had an actual "talent" until recently (I may be tooting my own horn here, but whatever I happen to like myself - and it's my blog!). Specifically, starting this blog is what helped me realize that I may be just a little better than good at writing, and the positive feed back I have received from this has been amazingly motivational to me. In the mere few months that I've been writing this blog, I've managed to make my way into the "writing crew" at my day job. I am now a contributor to my company's blog as well as assisting with creating social media posts. I absolutely love this new venture I seem to be on at work. I suddenly feel like I really have found my calling, and the phrase "love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life" finally makes sense to me!

Okay back to the topic at hand, we all have talents. You just need to nourish them and help them grow and shine. Had I not started this blog, I probably would not have had the writing epiphany I had in starting this. I also feel I am getting better and a lot more natural at this as time goes by. The fact that I am kind of a little bit sort of being considered as a real writer at work, just means the world to me. It's what keeps me writing on.

Considering the quote I have associated with this post today, I'd like to point out that you won't always be the best at what you're good at. There will always be someone better, so the key is to never let it bring you down. Don't worry about what the world thinks, just worry about showing the world what you got. Use your talents to the best of your ability and that in itself can be a talent! Be proud of what you are capable of and always keep at it. Never give up on anything that makes you happy. Love your talents, embrace them and let them shine.

What sort of talents do you have? I'd love to hear about them, use the comment area below! =)
